God Shaped Hole
By Kori Ashton
Portions taken from The Living Waters Bible NLT
We are all created with a deep thirst for God in our hearts, an
empty longing that only God can satisfy. We try to quench that thirst
with so many things--significance, success, comfort, peace, wisdom,
and even relationships.
But all these things, however good, cannot meet our deepest needs.
We often drink deeply at these wells and fountains, coming away
with a thirst even deeper than before. Long ago, the prophet Jerimiah
brought us God's description of our condition.
My
people have done two evil thing: They have forsaken me - the fountain
of living water. And they have dug for themselves cracked cisterns
that can hold no water at all! Jeremiah 2:13
At the root of it; we thirst for a closeness to our creator, who
alone can offer us wholeness and peace. Our thirst is one that can
only be satisfied by the presence of God in our lives. Jesus once
described himself to a woman at a well in Samaria as the true drink
we long for.
People soon become thirsty again after drinking this
water. But the water I give them takes away thirst altogether.
It becomes a perpetual spring within them, giving them eternal
life. John 4:13-14
In Jesus, God offers us water that can satisfy our deepest thirst
and longing. Jesus shouted to the crowds, If you are thirsty,
come to me! If You believe in me, come and drink! John 7:37
The invitation has never been withdrawn. Jesus, God's Word in
human flesh, calls us to come to him. We meet him and drink deeply
from him in the pages of God's Word. There God will meet our deepest
needs. Whether you thirst for the presence of God himself or for
peace, love, hope, and truth - the Bible will answer your needs.
Fill that God shaped hole. Come and Drink.
Prayer:
Jesus, I know I am empty without You in my life. You are
what I've been missing and I don't want to go on without asking
You to come and heal my brokenness and fill my heart with Your forgiveness,
love and joy. Forgive me for turning away from You. I pray You keep
me in Your Word and teach me Your ways. Bring relationships into
my life that are healthy and holy. Thank you for your forgiveness
and grace. Amen!
