A Time of Transition
By Wilma Ditterline
Transitions are everywhere aren’t they? It seems like we’re
always in some kind of transition whether it’s a move, a change
of school or friends, a divorce or a breakup, maybe even a new relationship
or job. Maybe the transition is in finally learning how to live
“out of the closet.” Whatever it is, we seem to always
hit obstacles in our path. Sometimes these obstacles are little
pebbles in our paths that we can easily go around. But sometimes
these obstacles are unsightly potholes that leave us with a flat
tire and off on the side of the road.
I am about to go through a new transition myself in a move from
Colorado to Arizona. I look forward to new people and new opportunities
ahead. I wonder though, what will the next pothole be for me and
will I be ready? Can we ever really be ready for what life throws
at us?
I feel like my whole life has been a constant transition. Do you
ever feel this way? It’s like, as soon as one thing is finished,
another begins again. There’s always something going on. This
can sometimes be an overwhelming journey trying to figure out who
we are, what we were meant for and how to live the best we possibly
can. But, I suppose without these transitions we would never learn
from our mistakes and we wouldn’t have a chance to grow into
who God created us to be.
So, I guess the point of this little narrative is to say: maybe
it’s time to start seeing these transitions and changes as
opportunities for more. If I go into this new move expecting to
fail at something then I limit myself as well as limiting what God
can do in me and through me. Are you in a time of transition now?
If so, make sure you’re aware of what you say to yourself.
We are our own worst critics and we are capable of so much more
than most of us realize. Take this time of transition and run with
it; learn new things. I suppose the time we spend on the side of
the road waiting for help can cause us to take the time to enjoy
the scenery and breathe a little fresh air.
